So you want to try kiteboarding??

Here are some steps to get you started:

1) Watch an Instructional DVD to familiarize yourself with the sport. You will learn new expressions [like wind window] and find out what kiteboarding is all about!

The DVD will introduce you to a small 2 or 3 meter training Kite and you can learn how to fly this on the beach. You can purchase this DVD here.

Practicing with a Trainer:
Step 1. Understand the proper launching and landing Zones at the edge of your wind window.

Step 2. Fly a figure-eight pattern in both the left and right side of the wind window, which simulates your kite movement when going both directions while kiteboarding

Step 3. Simulate board starts- Hold the kite in neutral while practicing putting your board on, and even practice the process of releasing the kite in an emergency. If you’re considering getting into the sport a safe purchase would be a 2-3 meter trainer kite ($100-$200). When you can fly the kite in every area of the wind window one-handed and without looking at it then you are ready for your first lesson.

2) Take Beginners Lessons:

The easiest way to get into the sport is to find a professional school that utilizes shallow water and personal watercraft support. It can be very frustrating (and dangerous) to try learning from a friend. By taking lessons, you will safely learn kiteboarding and have a lot of fun in the process!

3) Get the right Gear:
Now that you have taken lessons and are stoked you will need some full size gear. Your gear will be based on your weight , local flying conditions and your ability. Your instructor should be able to give you advice based on these factors.

4) Practice, Practice Practice:
Don’t let that new Gear sit in your trunk. Get out and Practice.. Get Wet every opportunity you have and hone the skills that you learned in your lessons. If you don’t practice you will forget what you have learned and before you know it you will be flying high
